To implement the traceability of the veterinary medicinal product at global level, the coding used is the GTIN code. It is defined by an international body, GS1, which guarantees the uniqueness of the code in the world.
This code consists of 14 digits, including a control key character. It has no intrinsic meaning. It is the MA holder who assigns GTIN-14 among the code ranges made available to it.
In particular, GTIN codes are used to track the sales and uses of antibiotics to identify each veterinary specialty and each package.
